The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working on a potential rule concerning water treatment requirements for public water systems, which includes rural private schools on a private well.
Our schools are potentially affected because a “public water system” is defined by the federal government as, “any water system – whether owned by a governmental entity or a private entity – that serves 25 or more people.”
Therefore, if a school gets their drinking water from a well or a well system and has at least 25 students/staff, they would qualify as owning/operating a public water system.
WCRIS is a member of the Council for American Private Education (CAPE), which is advocating for our schools on this regulation in Washington, D.C. CAPE’s advocacy will be more effective if WCRIS can identify how many schools are served by a private well.
Please take, literally, a minute to complete an easy and short survey to help WCRIS represent your interests to CAPE and the EPA. It requires no research. A principal can easily answer these questions off the top of their head. Please respond by March 15, 2022.
