WCRIS is working with legislators, the DPI and QEI to address the implementation of the new life licenses for teachers, which was created by passage of the state budget bill September 21.
The DPI met with the WCRIS Board of Directors to collaborate on the language of a “fixer bill” and changes that need to be included to clarify the law and fill the gaps that have been created by the shift to life licenses. The goal is to have this bill finalized by the end of the legislative session in March.
Many of the problems identified for private school teachers will be fixed by that legislation, said WCRIS Executive Director Sharon Schmeling.
The fixer bill will also include input from the Wisconsin Catholic Conference and other stakeholders.
In the meantime, the DPI has said it will have cost-free options available for license tracking. Those are in the process of being created. You can track that process by checking this page on the DPI website.
And, WCRIS has consulted with QEI, which is now inviting private schools to use its time-saving Provisional License Tracker to help with provisional license record-keeping for private schools.

Your school can try the PLT at no cost through June 30, 2018. After that, QEI has told WCRIS its fees will be “very reasonable.” The price will vary by school size.
You can register your school or get a quote about fees from John Fischer at QEI: support@myqei.org. To register your school with the Provisional License Tracking system at no cost through June 30, 2018, include the name and email address of the individual at your school who will be managing the school’s information on the PLT website.
