TSS Cases on the Rise
Five reports of toxic shock syndrome (TSS) have been reported to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) since July. The last time multiple cases were reported in Wisconsin was in 2011.
Four out of the five recent cases were associated with the use of high-absorbency tampons in teenage girls. Neither manner of use nor a specific brand of tampons has been determined as a cause.
Keep an eye out for symptoms such as fever, vomiting, dizziness and others in teenage, female students.
Safely Managing Fentanyl Contamination
A quick guide for school staff about cleaning fentanyl-contaminated areas has been published by DHS. Read it here.
The guide was developed in response to increasing amounts of drugs laced with fentanyl being found on school properties, like in lockers. Find more resources here.
