WCRIS got some welcome support in its quest to simplify teacher licensure in Wisconsin.
A new report by the Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty (WILL) documents how the teacher licensure system is choking the supply of teachers.
While state law does not require teacher licensure in private K-12 schools, many of our WCRIS jurisdictions require it. And, many teachers want to be licensed so they can move between the public and private school systems as family needs and professional aspirations dictate.
WCRIS has long been telling legislators of the byzantine nature of the state’s teacher licensure system and how it creates barriers to getting good people into the teaching profession.
The report by WILL adds strength to that ongoing effort.
