Regulations proposed by the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) are threatening schools’ religious liberty and right to free speech.

Under the proposed regulations, maintaining separate restrooms and dressing areas for men and women could be considered harassment, among other provisions that may contradict your school’s mission and values.

All employees should have the right to work without facing sex-based harassment. WCRIS supports laws prohibiting such harassment, but not at the expense of safety, religious freedom or freedom of speech.

These regulations, if passed, could impact several WCRIS member schools in their roles as employers. If you feel compelled, you’re urged to contact the EEOC here to voice your opinion. Include “Proposed Enforcement Guidance on Harassment in the Workplace” in your comments.

Public comments on the specific regulations closed this week, but feedback is still accepted in the EEOC general inbox. Please share the EEOC’s response to your comments with WCRIS.
