In the Milton Bradley board game of Life, you can land on a square that gives you an unexpected windfall.
That’s actually a real thing. Some WCRIS schools have “property” being held for them by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR). This is good news.
Every several years, WCRIS reminds its schools to check this list. When last done in 2016, we had 45 schools with unclaimed property totaling several thousand dollars.
In general, the property ranges from $100 to hundreds of thousands of dollars. It could be from a check that was sent to your school that was never cashed or refunds due your school from some vendor that, for whatever reason, never processed the payment for the school. We typically see balances left from soda companies, uniform apparel providers, energy savings programs, etc.
It could also be a payment resulting from your school being named a beneficiary on an insurance policy or settlement.
Take a moment now to search the easy-to-use State of Wisconsin Department of Revenue Unclaimed Property portal to find and claim what’s yours.
