This summer, the non-partisan Legislative Audit Bureau (LAB) will survey Wisconsin’s public school districts, independent charter schools, tribal schools, and private schools to hear their perspectives on the school safety grant program.
The LAB will email your school a survey. WCRIS urges you to provide feedback. This will inform the Legislature about how the school safety law affected private K-12 schools.
Earlier this year, the LAB sent auditors to interview WCRIS staff about the Department of Justice’s School Safety grant program and administration. WCRIS explained our schools’ challenges and frustrations, as well as successes, with the program.
The LAB supports the Legislature in its oversight of Wisconsin government and its promotion of efficient and effective state operations by providing independent, accurate, and timely audits and evaluations of public finances and the management of public programs.
The LAB’s report will be sent to the Legislature sometime this Fall. It’s important that private K-12 schools’ experience be included. That will not happen unless private schools complete their surveys.
If you have questions about the survey or the audit in general, please contact the LAB at (608) 266‑2818 or email it at AskLab@legis.wisconsin.gov.
