For the 2016-17 school year, schools must complete the Intent to Participate Form by June 1, 2016. This form is comparable to the Intent to Participate Form for the Private School Choice Programs (PSCP). WCRIS will notify schools once this form is available from the DPI.
There are a few differences between the SNSP and the PSCP school participation process worth noting.
First, the Intent to Participate Form must be completed and signed by the head of the private school’s governing board. Your school will still need to assign a “Choice Administrator” as a separate function of enrollment in the program. However, this “Choice Administrator” can be the head of the governing board, if you so choose.
Second, within the Intent to Participate Form, schools will be required to complete a “special education profile.” This is very important for your school as it will define to applicants what special education services your school can provide. WCRIS advises your profile be as specific as possible.
Third, schools participating in the SNSP will be required to conduct criminal background checks prior to employing any individual, including contracted persons. Thereafter, background checks will need to be conducted for all employees at the school every five years. WCRIS is investigating options for discounts with background check providers, which your school can use to complete this process.
Lastly, the financial process is similar to that of the PSCP. There are two options available for submitting financial viability information. The number of seats available at your school for the SNSP will determine which method you must use when providing this information. WCRIS recommends you contact the DPI with specific financial questions.
