For a student to be eligible for the SNSP, he/she must have had an IEP or services plan from the public school district prior to applying for the program. An IEP is valid only in the public school district; however, the private school is required to implement a student’s IEP once he/she has been accepted into the SNSP. Please note that your school may call educational plans for special needs students “IEPs”, but this is not the same thing as an IEP or services plan specifically from a public school.
Once a student is accepted in the SNSP, the private school can make modifications to the IEP carried over from the public school district. Make sure that any modifications are put in writing and signed by all parties involved. For example, include the parents, the SNSP school administrator, the head of the governing board and the employee(s) working with the student’s plan.
