Question: Since our church and school are in the same building, a parishioner who has a concealed carry license is asking our pastor and myself for written permission to carry his firearm when he attends church services. Is this part of the law?
Answer: Although the possession of a firearm on school grounds is generally prohibited, a person can carry a concealed weapon on school grounds if the person has entered into a contract with the school, according to page 24 of WCRIS’ Legal Handbook.
WCRIS doesn’t employ lawyers so we suggest you also contact your school’s or jurisdiction’s attorney. They’ll want to reference this statute.
We also recommend you work with your attorney to draft the agreement to ensure that your school, church and the individual are all on the same page.
