Assembly Speaker Robin Vos recently assigned lawmakers to a task force that will investigate the state’s rising rates of K-12 truancy. An August report found that student absenteeism increased for the sixth straight year in 2021-22.
The bipartisan task force will be traveling around the state to identify root causes of truancy, investigate the relationship between truancy and academic success, gather information about parents’ and schools’ accountability practices and more. The group hopes to wrap-up its research by December.
If you’d like to share your input about truancy and private schools, contact the legislator on this list from the district closest to your school. Contact information can be found here.
In addition to the truancy task force, the speaker created three other bipartisan task forces focused on artificial intelligence (AI), childhood obesity and human trafficking. Learn more here.
