Over 3,000 questions poured into the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) between May and July regarding the background check requirement for Lifetime Teacher License holders.
“We have made significant progress and are at less than half that now, but we are still receiving approximately 100 new questions per day,” said David DeGuire, Director of the DPI Teacher Education, Professional Development & Licensing Team.
In response to the surge of questions, the DPI has released a series of videos for teachers to help them navigate the process.
The following videos are available:
- Video on how to complete the background check application: https://youtu.be/UrmbD4mVe38
- Video on how to pay for the background check application: https://youtu.be/lZSbq8qjLC0
- Video on creating a WAMS ID: https://youtu.be/lSFlUPS8QXk (text directions can be found at https://dpi.wi.gov/cst/data-security/wams/create-account)
The DPI has also made changes to the process for submitting questions to help speed up the response time. The DPI is asking teachers to file their questions using this form. This form allows the questions to be answered in the order they are received.
