Ahead of schools’ spring breaks, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) and the DPI school nursing consultant are recommending school staff stay alert for potential measles outbreaks.
At the time of publication, there are no confirmed measles cases in Wisconsin, but one was recently confirmed in Illinois. Since the beginning of the year, seventeen states have reported a case of measles, including a recent outbreak in Florida, a popular spring break destination.

The DPI school nurse encourages school staff to review their student population’s MMR vaccine (used to prevent measles) rates to help determine communication, if any, with your school families.
