Yesterday, the House Ways and Means Committee passed the Educational Choice for Children Act of 2024 (ECCA). This is the first time in history a congressional committee has passed a national school choice bill, according to the Council for American Private Education (CAPE).

The act would set-up billions of dollars in federal tax credits for donations made by individuals or businesses to scholarship-granting institutions. These institutions would then award scholarships to eligible students which could be used on a host of education-related expenses, including private K-12 school tuition.

Although it’s unlikely Congress will pass the ECCA as its session is closing and elections are upcoming, the committee’s passing of the the bill is a historic milestone for the school choice movement and private K-12 education. Committee passage is huge as the bill will be reintroduced in Congress once again. We’ll keep you updated!
