Proposed Assembly Bill 77 and its companion Senate Bill 74 would allow schools in the three Parental Choice Programs to offer an automatic application process to families of students participating in the choice programs. The bills don’t reference the Special Needs Scholarship Program (SNSP).
According to the bills, students would automatically be able to attend the school under the choice program until the parent notifies the school to stop the automatic application or the student is enrolled in the highest grade offered by the school.
The bills do not address the timeline for the automatic applications, the logistics of the automatic system or other considerations. Usually, the Legislature leaves it to state agencies, like the DPI, to create rules to implement a statute.
