An estimated 50,000 people have flocked to a spontaneous outpouring of non-stop, student-led prayer at the Methodist Asbury University in rural Kentucky, overwhelming the local infrastructure and drawing praise from former Milwaukee Archbishop Timothy Dolan. Cardinal Dolan is now the Archbishop of New York.
A historian by training, Dolan talks about faith and reason and the role of religion in education and its impact on American society. Dolan wonders if this is “a great sign” of the start of another Great Awakening.
Dolan praises the innovative Christian pursuit and wonders if it will “spark some type of religious revival in the country that everybody kind of admits we need.”
In his interview, he remarked, “We live in a culture that wants to kind of dismiss that, denigrate that, push that to the side but we can’t ignore the ‘alliance between faith and reason.’”
This is important information that we gratefully can still teach in our schools, but as you’re aware, protecting your school’s mission, beliefs, and values is becoming increasingly challenging.
