WCRIS Schools Can Comply with State Law Via Free Prevention Resources
New information just released from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that, while the numbers of suicides among children still remain low, the increase in suicides for children age 10-14 have seen the most growth.
Wisconsin law requires private schools to educate its staff about the free suicide prevention resources available from the Department of Public Instruction (DPI).
For girls age 10-14 the rate of suicides has tripled to 1.5 per 100,000 people, and for boys, the rate rose from 1.9 to 2.6 per 100,000, between 1999 and 2014.
The startling increase in suicide numbers for this age group, is a good reminder for WCRIS schools to take advantage of these free prevention resources.
You can comply with the law by downloading the required notice of suicide prevention resources, printing it and sharing it with your staff. Additionally, more resources are available at, http://dpi.wi.gov/sspw/mental-health/youth-suicide-prevention
